Imaginary Friends by EdmondDantes Imaginary Friends by EdmondDantes
A touch of atheism to dilute the cute gothiness.

I made this thinking it's for such a narrow niche that I may never put it on a shirt... But you never know.

The idea is this: While I never insist that others believe in my imaginary friends...most Christians (and sometimes members of other sects) seem to want you to believe in theirs very badly.

You know... Their omnipotent old men in the sky, and suchlike.

Not that there's anything wrong with having imaginary friends. It's just when you're running your life to suit their imaginary whims that it gets worrying.

First off, the only time God is ever "shown" in the bible he appears as an enormous flaming figure on top of a crystal throne, not some old bearded guy. Secondly, calling it an imaginary friend is like calling Athiest's beliefs that their concept of there being no god is an "imaginary friend" itself.

I am religious, and it makes me sad that it's so hard to admit it. So many crazy people run around, ruining religion for everyone else. Just because I believe a certain set of things doesn't mean anyone else has to. Although I am slightly offended to see my beliefs called an imaginary friend, as I don't say people who believe in evolution are Pokemon fans... But I completely get the point you're trying to make.

Well, the intent was not to specifically offend you, and thank you for understanding the point.

One thing worries me... Why would you think that someone who thinks evolution is fact should be called a Pokemon fan? You do know that what happens in Pokemon is not even slightly near the same hemisphere as what Darwin described?

I know Pokemon is nothing like actual evolution (and wow I must have written that tired, I forgot to specify the difference between proven evolution and the theory of evolution, which everyone has their own thoughts on. Oops.) I was using it to illustrate the point that I see religion as similar to an imaginary friend as those who believe in the theory of evolution are like Pokemon fans. In short, not at all similar.

I think it's a little presumptuous to think that most Christians (or most people from any religious sect for that matter) are hell bent (excuse the pun!) on making everyone else believe what we believe. If it truly were most people, I think you'd spend 75% of your time beating away Evangelists. Just my two cents.

I said that most Christians "seem to want you to believe", not that all are active evangelists. Mind you, this mostly manifests as a well meaning concern. But even so - evidenced fear for a soul that some of us don't believe in can feel just as promotional of belief as swatting us with a bible.

The design itself is aimed at those who do actively or passively proselytize. Not at individuals who have respect and restraint.

It's a valid point. I know not everyone is out to convert everyone. I'm also not saying that I believe that to be the case.

Oh, OK, I see your point. I agree, it does feel like it's pushing others to believe, but like you said, it is manifested as well meaning concern. It may be annoying to those who don't believe, but I always saw it as (for the most part) a benevolent worry.

I'm sorry if it seemed I was lashing out, that wasn't my intent.

Fair enough.

But for future reference, the strident tone of my design may be understood thusly:

A well meaning sharp-stick in the eye (figurative as it may be) is still a sharp stick in the eye.

Hmmm, I don't feel that the comparison to a sharp stick in the eye is really very fitting, considering the violent overtones of the analogy. Concerns, however they are inspired, aren't violent in and of themselves.

Well it's not EXCLUSIVELY mine.
Anyone can set up a gallery and sell items with their own art on CafePress or Zazzle.

As soon as I have enough popular designs, I'm going to invest in getting my stores customized and perhaps linked back to a central site.

And, thank you for both the comment and the fave. :w00t!:

Remember; it's the personal surety that one is not abused by delusions and superstition that's important.

The pissing off of others is merely an amusing side-benefit. :)
